Hi there! Stephanie, here – today’s post is all about our favorite dog-friendly spots in the Hudson Valley. From orchards and farms, to breweries, wineries, and restaurants – this multi-part post is what Percy’s dreams are made of and feels very on brand now that I’ve changed my Instagram handle to hudsonvalleydogmom.

New Paltz

Twin Star Orchards (@twinstarorchards) – Ohioville Road, New Paltz (Open Friday-Sunday)

Darren and I first checked out Twin Star Orchards/Brooklyn Cider House in the fall of 2018 – while it was love at first sip, we grew to love it even more after the pandemic hit. There’s plenty of outdoor seating and everyone is very socially distant (you can even bring a blanket and find your own spot somewhere in the orchard). It feels super safe and the view and food are just incredible – Darren and I now compare all pizza to Twin Star’s pizza.

We recently took Percy for his first of many trips and he loved it just as much as we did! We even saw another golden retriever puppy there. If you go, be sure to get a picture in front of the UGLY APPLES TASTE BETTER trailer – I always do! Pro tip, keep a picnic blanket in your trunk just in case there’s not a table available.

Schatzi’s (@schatzispubnewpaltz)- Main Street, New Paltz (Closed on Tuesdays!)

Schatzi’s holds such a special place in my heart – before my dad passed away, we had a few magical meals at Schatzi’s together – he always promised we’d share one more root beer, something I think about every time I order one.

That said, Schatzi’s New Paltz has the sweetest staff, the cutest little patio and is dog-friendly. When Darren called to ask if we could bring Percy along, they said “we actually prefer when people bring their dogs – come on down!” They even asked if they could bring Percy his own water bowl.

The food is amazing, especially the appetizers, and you should follow them on Instagram because their specials are the highlight of my weekend feed. Percy snuck a French fry off the ground and he gave it a 10/10. Pro tip, keep the beer cheese from your pretzels – it’s the perfect dip for your fries!

If you want to take your pup for a walk before grabbing some food – be sure to checkout Minnewaksa or the River-to-Ridge trail – both are especially beautiful in the summer and fall.

Accord

Arrowood Farms (@arrowoodfarms) – Little Whitfield Road (Closed Tuesdays)

Darren and I recently checked out Arrowood Farms over in Accord and it made for the perfect sunny Saturday. We sipped whiskey lemonades and ate fried chicken sandwiches while Percy hung out under a picnic table. There’s an outdoor pavilion that serves drinks and snacks and a full menu inside the brewery (they bring the food out to you)! We got there about an hour after open and had the choice of pretty much any picnic table – that said, it did seem to pick-up around 3 o’clock, so try to get there a little early.

Albany

Nine Pin Cider (@ninepincider) – Broadway (Open everyday!)

When Darren and I heard that Nine Pin had a tasting room in Albany – we knew we had to try it! We met up with my brother and his girlfriend on a Sunday and had the best time sipping flights of ciders and flights of cider mimosas (highly recommend). We got there right at open and were happy to be the first people sitting outside, I’d recommend getting here early because there’s limited outdoor seating and if you’re like us, you’ll want to stay a while! Percy met lots of cute pups while here and the staff were beyond sweet to him – also, they let pups inside too, which makes life SO much easier if you’re a dog mom/dad (we didn’t have to take turns ordering food).

Pro tip, stop in Kinderhook on your way up to check out Cosmic Donuts (Open Thursday-Sunday)!

Livingston Manor

Upward Brewing Company (@upward.brewing) – Main Street (Closed Mondays & Tuesdays)

Okay, so Livingston Manor is a bit of a drive, but Upward Brewing was SO worth it. We went here recently with friends and it was such a cute spot! Upward Brewing is not only home to this scenic spot for food and drinks, but also to a hike called “Beer Mountain.” If you ever needed to convince your man to go anywhere – just tell him you’re taking him to Beer Mountain for the day and he’ll be in the car in no time. We got here about two hours after open and the place was packed. Word to the wise, get here right at open if you want a picnic table near the pond, or BYOPB (bring your own picnic blanket)! Darren and I will definitely be back to check this place out in the fall – I can’t even imagine how pretty the leaves look from Beer Mountain, plus it looks like they have fire pits and Adirondack chairs for chilly weekends in October.
